In Black and White

Those of you who follow me on twitter (@coverred1) will know that yesterday I purchased these fab white jeans- a little late maybe but I've only really felt inspired to buy them now that the sun has shown itself.  So I thought I'd treat you to some monochrome musings, with the focus on the white jeans.  As a major trend that's gonna stick around through into Winter black and white is the new Black!

By the Pool

As a typically English, fair skinned specimen I am adverse to any shade of bikini bar black!  When I'm sunning myself (for a max of about 1 hour, smothered in factor 50) by the pool I look enviously apon those lithe, tanned creatures in their tangerine or bright white two pieces and wish I could wear something a bit braver. But the truth is I really like my collection of black swimwear - I think it looks chic and effortless. So I'm currently rejoicing over H&M's new tribal inspired bikini top.  It's perfect to team with a pair of the numerous black bottoms I already have and I love the teeth detail that add interest. At £9.99 it's great for all, be you tanned, shipwrecked traveller or pale, yet very, interesting poolside loiterer!

I love Laura Lee jewellery!  I always have.  her pieces have a timeless classicism and are so delicate and intricate that every piece invites you to look closer.  The Namesake bracelet is an example of just that.  With space to engrave your name, nickname or that of someone you love it becomes instantly personal.  I love the mix of silver and gold in her pieces as I always mix the two in my own jewellery collection.  This is the perfect poolside accessory for me - the gold will look dazzling on a tanned wrist and it's so delicate that you can wear it with swimwear and not feel gaudy or overdressed. Less is always more.

Well Hello Clarks sandals!  Yes you heard me correctly they're from Clarks - home to the navy blue shoes of school day fame (you know the ones!) but more recently to these beauties!  Clarks has come on leaps and bounds since the days of reluctant school shoe shopping.  From collaborations with Liberty of London to collections designed by the infamous Mary Portas, Clarks are a brand to be battled with in the world of shoe design.  And don't these just prove it!  I love the elegance of these, they'll take you from pool to party and the flash of silver adds instant style points.  I'd team them with white rolled up jeans and a plain white tee and let these summer stunners do all the talking.

Hazy Days

All this gorgeous sunshine has inspired me to go bohemian and channel some 70's hedonism.  I'm not normally a 'dress' person, trousers are my go-to staple, but this crocheted, floaty piece was found in the Free People sale and at only £30 I couldn't resist.  I love it's relaxed feel and am planning on wearing it to a friend's festival wedding in September. So if you get a break at lunch today head outside, take off those shoes and embrace a little sun-worship!

In the Pink

So here, as promised, is a little outfit post including the new bag!  It's a bit brighter then I expected but I quite like the playfulness of it, especially teamed with a cream shirt. It'll be great for summer festivals as it isn't leather and so won't get mind a little cider being spilled on it!  Let me know what you think and whether I should keep this colour or go for the less in -your- face grey?  Answers on the back of a postcard please...

Tie Dyed!

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and what better way to celebrate then investing in a very affordable little tie dye number?! If you're a little afraid of splashing out on tie-dye jeans a la Isabel Marant then this is a great way to give a nod to the trend this season.  At only £20 you won't regret it this time next year when surfer chic may not be the flavour of the month! I've bagged the red one and can't wait to take it for a test drive (outfit post will come as soon as it's delivered). Don your ripped shorts dudes, summer's here!

Dezso

I was going to include this piece in my covet-ed items but I felt it deserved it's very own post.
Dezso is Latin for Desire and I'm desiring the beautiful beach inspired pieces created by stylist- turned- jeweller, Sara Beltran.  The pieces she creates are all inspired by her love of the sea and are often made from pieces she hand pics from the surf to cast in gold or silver.  The shark's tooth motif carries across several items in the collection but this has to be my favourite.  A flash of neon and silver on a tanned bod and hey presto it's summer!

Covet-ed (verb): to wish for, especially eagerly

Let it be known, I'm a bit of a magpie, especially when it comes to a bit of Aztec inspired jewellery.  This little beaut caught my eye when I was browsing through Obey's jewellery pages (definately worth a look) and at only £40 it's something to snap up and sling on for effortless summer dressing. I'm envisaging a low neck white tee with ripped to shreds shorts and a loose waistcoat or teamed with a little black bikini for perfect, poolside posing!

Even though I'm not especially blessed with long legs, most of my life is lived in flats, being a naturally clumsy person heels are an added obstacle to me!   So when doing a spot of freelancing at Net-a-Porter and happening upon these great summer flats from Cobra Society, it was natural for me to fall in love.  The colour, the pattern, the steel toe detail - there is nothing that doesn't work about these shoes.   OK so there is one thing, at £295 they're a little out of my price range but a girl can dream can't she?!
Get them here: Net-a-Porter

If I could only choose one clothing company to wear all my life I think I would have to pick  US brand FreePeople.  Unfortunately the only way to get hold of their stuff is online (if anyone from FP is reading - a UK store would be much appreciated|) but the site is jam packed with amazing pieces.  If, like me, you're a bit of a hippy at heart then FreePeople have it all, lace flares, fringe bags and my fascination du jour, this amazing jacket made from recycled materials.   Wear with a pair of tie dyed jeans and a grey slouchy tank and being Eco has never looked do good!
If you've got the cash to burn buy online here: FreePeople

An added extra - I've had this on repeat whilst compiling this post. Muse, model, musician Lou Doillon has it all! Lou Doillon I.C.U
